Never Forget: September 11, 2001

CAMERA WORK Gallery presents the exhibition »Never Forget: September 11, 2001« from September 5 to October 2, 2026. The exhibition takes place on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of »9/11«.

The exhibition, comprising more than 40 works, was curated by CAMERA WORK Gallery. With historical distance, it traces how photographic artists experienced the events of »9/11« and which photographic focus they set. One section of the exhibition addresses the World Trade Center as a motif in the history of photography.

The exhibition features renowned photographers, including Thomas Hoepker, Patrick Demarchelier, Steve McCurry, Elliott Erwitt, Russell James and Pete Souza. In addition, works from the Magnum archive will be shown.

The works reveal how photographs of »9/11« move at the intersections of photographic art: Selected works document the historical context while at the same time reflecting a high artistic and aesthetic standard. Among them are photographs that, in retrospect, have established themselves as icons of contemporary history. Thomas Hoepker’s world-famous work »View from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Manhattan, September 11, 2001« receives special attention as the central work of the exhibition.

The exhibition is accompanied by a supporting program, including panel discussions with experts and scholars as well as special guided tours.
