Elliott Erwitt’s body of work is characterized by a unified endeavor to depict the essence of life: all that holds people together and connects them. As a chronicler of the 20th century, he does not merely condense events in his photographs. Rather, he portrays life in its microcosm and embellishes the images with his characteristic pictorial mood between ambiguous humor and subtle romanticism.
