Born as John Rankin Waddell in 1966 in Paisley, Rankin ranks as one of the most successful portrait and fashion photographers today. He is a London College of Communication graduate and lives in London. Together with Jefferson Hack, Rankin released his first magazin entitled »Dazed and Confused« in 1992, followed by further print and online publications about fashion, design, and photography. With his intimate approach and playful sense of humour, Rankin became known for his portraiture of bands, artists, supermodels, and politicians. Having photographed everyone from the Queen of England to the Queen of Pop, Rankin is often seen as a celebrity photographer. He worked with Kate Moss, Heidi Klum, Gisele Bündchen, Keira Knightley, Vivienne Westwood, Katy Perry, Madonna, Cate Blanchett, Nelly Furtado or David Bowie and with labels such as Hugo Boss and L’Oreal as well as several magazines.
