Camera Work

Camera Work Gallery

CAMERA WORK Gallery was founded in 1997 in Berlin, and has since then become one of the worldwide leading galleries for photographic art. With its historically coined gallery name, the gallery has always followed the philosophy to represent, next to world famous classic photographers such as Diane Arbus, Richard Avedon, Peter Lindbergh, Patrick Demarchelier, Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, Man Ray, Herb Ritts, and Albert Watson and contemporary artists to manifest the position of photography as an independent genre within visual art and to give room to new positions.

CAMERA WORK Gallery exclusively represents many prominent contemporary artists in Germany, Europe and around the world such as David Yarrow, Jean-Baptiste Huynh, Olaf Heine, Russell James, Robert Polidori, Eugenio Recuenco, Martin Schoeller, Dean West, and Christian Tagliavini. CAMERA WORK regularly participates in the major international photography and art fairs, such as Art Central Hong Kong, Zona Maco in Mexico City, Paris Photo, and Photo London.

CAMERA WORK Gallery represents about 40 artists and has hosted more than 200 exhibitions so far.

In 2020, CAMERA WORK established CAMERA WORK Virtual Gallery: an innovative, high quality online gallery where art collectors and art lovers can experience exclusive exhibitions.

Camera Work AG

The Kennedys

After more than 12 successful years, in 2019 the museum THE KENNEDYS closed its location in Berlin to travel the world. This is a new and exciting chapter in the chronicle of the world’s largest private collection on the Kennedy family. John F. Kennedy’s connection to Germany and Berlin is an important part of our history and should be accessible to witnesses of that time as much as adolescents internationally. This induced the museum’s supporter CAMERA WORK AG to close the museum’s location in Berlin and let the collection become a global long-run touring exhibition.

The impressive collection THE KENNEDYS consists of about 2,000 mostly-vintage photographs by artists such as Mark Shaw, Yousuf Karsh, Robert Frank, or Hy Peskin, and numerous official and private documents, an extensive press archive, and over 100 pieces of Kennedy family memorabilia.

Since opening in Berlin in 2006, the museum had presented over 30 special exhibitions from the comprehensive photo collection of CAMERA WORK AG as well as in cooperation with international artists and institutions—such as the British fashion designer Paul Smith, the finish fashion label Marimekko, Germany’s most famous department store KaDeWe, and Montblanc. Not only because of its focus on fashion and art, the museum became a popular cultural hot spot for Berliners and tourists from all over the world. Politicians as German Chancellor Angela Merkel, late German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, and former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev visited the museum in the context of several events. For over one decade, THE KENNEDYS made it possible to experience the unique combination of art, fashion, and politics in Berlin.

We will keep you updated on the museum’s world tour here. For further information on the collection please go to: www.thekennedys.de/english

For any questions on THE KENNEDYS and for exhibition requests, please contact Ms. Alina Heinze.
