Steve Schapiro

Steve Schapiro’s (1934-2022) career as a photo journalist started in 1961. During the »golden age in photo journalism« he also took important photographs of Robert F. Kennedy’s election campaign and was the first photographer at the location where Martin Luther King had been assassinated. The portraits of Andy Warhol, David Bowie, Muhammad Ali, Samuel Beckett, Truman Capote, Barbra Streisand, and Jackie Kennedy have made their mark in history among Steve Schapiro’s famous works. Moreover, Steve Schapiro also worked on the film sets of more than 600 movies, »The Godfather« (1972) and »Taxi Driver« (1976) being among them. His photographs have been published in numerous leading magazines and have been part of several major exhibitions in museums and galleries. Moreover, Schapiro’s photographic works are part of important privat, corporate and public collections.
